1st December 2024

I don’t take any pleasure from being discouraging. I witnessed the Enfield parade of lights this evening as part of the 25 days of counting down to Christmas. It was a disappointment. I haven’t seen it for a few years, I think the last one was before COVID. I hadn’t realised it had deteriorated so much. It was short for one, the whole thing felt clinical, rather than community focused and led. The whole parade past my work in 20mins. 5 Children waved, 3 I knew from Lucas’ school. The variety of community groups were minimal and to be honest I felt embarrassed by the whole thing.

After watching, I made my way to Enfield town to watch the Mayor turn on lights. ( I had to shout and wave to get them to respond, something not befitting of a parade). I didn’t stay, I went home.

We were going to have a float this year, something I have wanted to do since we first it back in 2013, I am really glad we didn’t.

I completely forgot to mention, this was filmed on a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB and the audio was recorded on the same Pi using a rode usbnt.

The New Frontier

This podcast is on anchor/ spotify, so I am not going to double post. In a desperate bid, yes desperate bid, to get you to listen to the podcast, I have attached the file here as well as the hikenpod page.

Yesterday I walked from Enfield to Hertford again, it is my go hike when I want to practise or have been out of practise. It was 19 miles and a bit but it was fun. Have a listen, it is a long podcast but I think it is worth it.

Thanks for visiting.

The Dead House

This is not a typo, it’s reflection of my feelings on this year’s event. I have already written about it here on the Dread House site.

This has been an exercise in how I want to improve the ideas and make the whole thing better. I have walked away feeling like a failure and a nagging feeling the Capel manor will not let me do it again. They give me free-reign, adopt and incorporate my ideas, give me the time I ask for and then pay me. It is an relationship I am keen to maintain, I also get to be Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny as well. I could also manage a summer show. Also my clinical supervisor Brian, thinks it’s a great idea. I was also chuffed and proud to see my long time friend Rob come along and take photos, he got a special viewing and had the house to himself.

The planning started as I said in the post on the DH site back in January and by the of February, I had the main idea designed. I took it to Alex and Anisah at Capel and they approved it. The intention was there, had I managed to secure the funding, I am not sure how much better it would have been. I purchased the second marquee in September, we didn’t have the black material. The old marquee was sitting in my garden under the old blackout material for a year. They all survived, barely. I bought a new shed to house all of the kit and I have just finished assembling it and got all of the props and both marquees inside.

The set up and the partitions were much the same as last year, I didn’t have a design in mind or a brief, so I was relying on Greg to come up with something. The best course of action was to follow suit from last year. Now I have given it some thought, I will try a new system with plumbing pipes. This is the idea so far, it’s a haunted house, with 3 rooms and a tunnel of terror at the end.
